PMGSY on road target
A total of 32,963-km of rural road projects have been completed as 27 Jan 2017, or 67.53 per cent of the of the annual target under a national road completion scheme #Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY).
PMGSY, a flagship scheme of the #Ministry of Rural Development, is to achieve the annual targeted length of 48,812-kilometers of rural roads by 31st March, 2017, as the construction work picks up from January to May every year.
This translates to 111-km of roads being constructed every day, said a government press note on Jan 27, 2017. Based on the annual target of 48,812-kms, the average per day construction should be 133-km per day.
Rainy and winter seasons during September to December are considered lean months for road construction.
Construction picks up from January to May due to favourable weather.
It is also important to underline that from April to August, 2016
PMGSY had achieved an average per day construction of 139-kms from April to August 2016. This would, therefore, held achieve the annual targeted length of 48,812-km by end March 2017.
Another major achievement has been the use “green” technologies and local non-conventional materials (waste plastic, cold mix, geo-textiles, fly ash, copper and iron slag etc.) in construction of PMGSY roads.
Low cost, non-polluting, labour friendly and fast construction technologies/materials have been used in the construction of these roads. fii-news.com
