No participation in nuke electricity generation
India’s private sector has been supplying nuclear components & equipment and executing large work packages as well as other services, said Dr Jitendra Singh, Minister of State for Atomic Energy and Space.
But there is no proposal for private sector participation in nuclear power generation in the country, he said in told Lok Sabha on 6 April 2017.
Nuclear Power Corporation of India Limited (NPCIL), a Public Sector Enterprise of the Department of Atomic Energy has entered into Joint Ventures with some of the Public Sector Units for setting up nuclear power projects.
These are:
Anushakti Vidhyut Nigam Limited and NTPC Ltd in a 51:49 joint venture since 27.01.2011;
Indian Oil Nuclear Energy Corporation Limited in a 74:26 venture with Indian Oil Corporation Limited since 6.4.2011.
NALCO Power Company Limited in a 74:26 partnership with National Aluminum Company since 2.3.2012.
The targets for electricity generation from nuclear power are set on an annual basis. For 2016-17, it is 36,000 Million Units (MU).
The generation upto February 2017 has been 34,137 Mus. In addition, 2,086 MUs of infirm (non-commercial) power has also been generated in the current year, upto February 2017.
Nuclear electricity generation for 2014-15 and 2015-16 was 37,835 MU and 37,456 Mus, respectively. fii-news.com
