Phase development for 6.84 sq km capital city.
A Singapore-Andhra Pradesh joint venture will undertake the development of Amaravati, a 6.84 sq km new state capital for the south Indian state.
Singapore companies Ascendas-Singbridge and Sembcorp Development will form Amaravati Development Partners (ADP) with Andhra Pradesh, which is building a new capital city.
Amaravati would be developed in phases over the next 15-20 years and peak with a population of 10 million people.
Singapore had created three masterplans for Amaravati in July 2015 on invitation from the Andhra Pradesh government.
The project to develop Amaravati’s commercial core would be “one of the most significant by far, both in terms of scale and in terms of the potential for greater mutual partnership and contribution by Singapore towards India’s broader development objectives,” said S. Iswaran, Singapore’s Minister of Trade and Industry on 15 May 2017.
“I think it’s also an opportunity for our businesses from Singapore to participate in the opportunity in India,” he added, announcing the appointment of Singapore companies to master develop the new city.”
