Hiramatsu conveys Japanese investment intention to Singh.
Japan is set to invest in India’s North Eastern Region, starting with Assam, followed by Manipur and Nagaland, covering main infrastructure such as roads and bridges.
The Ambassador of Japan to India, Kenji Hiramatsu, has conveyed his government’s inclination to invest in Northeast and also offer any other feasible support for new ventures.
Hiramatsu has conveyed the Japanese government’s intentions to Union Minister of State for Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER), Dr Jatindra Singh on May 17 in New Delhi.
The North-Eastern region has immense potential, and with the kind of priority being given to the region by the Indian Government, the Japanese government looks forward to partnership at different levels, both financially and otherwise.
Kenji listed out Assam as top priority state for Japanese investment, followed by Manipur and Nagaland.
Besides the trade and entrepreneurship interest, the Japanese also has a historic emotional link with the region, where 30,000 Japanese soldiers died during the Second World War while fighting jointly with the British Army against the allied forces.
Dr Singh appreciated the Japanese offer, saying the Ministry of DoNER will look forward to engagement of Japanese resources in the making of roads and bridges.
The Japanese partnership could also be utilized in the recent initiative of developing inland waterways transport along River Brahmaputra down to Bay of Bengal as well as supplementing the Venture Fund announced by DoNER Ministry for “Start-Ups” in Northeast. fii-news.com
