Rs.255,000 crore projects to boost southern economies.
A new container terminal, costing Rs.1,270 crore, is part of the Rs.255,000 crore worth of Sagarmala projects in Tamil Nadu, boosting the southern state’s economy, said Shipping, Road Transport & Highways Minister Nitin Gadari.
The projects also include a new multi cargo terminal worth Rs.151 crores, Railway line to Container and Multi cargo terminal worth Rs.60 crore, he said.
The Development of New Terminal will provide more container handling facility for traders, facilitate the new industries and ancillaries in the vicinity of the port, provide new job opportunities and will give boost to local economy, he said.
The Rail Connectivity to Container and Multi Cargo Terminal will improve cargo movement through rail route.
The terminal will also reduce the logistic cost and the load on road, said the minister at Kamarajar Port in Chennai on 9 June 2017 where he inaugurated several new projects.
The minister also announced Rs.39,000 crore for port modernization, Rs.55,000 crore for port connectivity and Rs.1,50,000 crore for port led industrialization. fii-news.com
