Japan-India meeting discuss industries for the region.
India has identified Connectivity and Road Network Development, especially inter-State roads & major district roads for the Japan-India Cooperation Forum (JICF).
Other identified areas include Disaster Management; Food Processing; Organic Farming and Tourism which were discussed at the first meeting of Japan-India Coordination Forum (JICF) for Development of North-Eastern Region.
The meeting was held on 3 August 2017 in New Delhi.
Secretary, Ministry of Development of North-Eastern Region (DoNER), Naveen Verma led the Indian side while the Japanese delegation was led by the Japanese Ambassador to India, Kenji Hiramatsu.
Senior Officers of the Ministry of Home Affairs, External Affairs, Department of Economic Affairs, and line Ministries of Government of India including Road Transport & Highways, Agriculture, Power besides Resident Commissioners of the eight States of the NER participated in the meeting.
The Japanese delegation included Kenko Sone, Minister, Economic Affairs, Embassy of Japan, besides representatives from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO), Japan National Tourism Organization (JNTO) and Japan Foundation.
In May 2017, Japan said it would invest in infrastructure in Assam, Manipur and Nagaland. Japan maintains a special relations with the North East region where 30,000 Japanese soldiers died during the World War II. fii-news.com
