The company commissions 250MW unit in Bihar

Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) has won Rs.2,800 crore order for setting up a 660MW coal-based thermal power project with supercritical parameters in Maharashtra.
The project will be set up as an expansion project (Unit 6) of Maharashtra State Power Generation Company (MAHAGENCO)’s
Bhusawal Thermal Power Station (TPS) in Jalgaon district of Maharashtra.
BHEL’s scope of work for this brownfield expansion project includes design, engineering, manufacture, supply, construction, erection, testing and commissioning of 1x660MW supercritical thermal set and civil works.
The 1,420MW Bhusawal TPS is presently equipped with 2 sets each of 210MW and 500MW ratings. Notably, all these sets have been supplied and commissioned by BHEL.
Reposing its confidence in BHEL’s technological and project execution capabilities, MAHAGENCO has entrusted the company with the contract for setting up the first supercritical set at Bhusawal TPS.
The key equipment for the contract will be manufactured at BHEL’s Trichy, Haridwar, Bhopal, Ranipet, Hyderabad, Jhansi, Thirumayam and Bengaluru plants while the company’s Power Sector – Western Region shall be responsible for civil works and
erection and commissioning of the equipment.
The company has established the capability to deliver power plant equipment of 20,000MW per annum to fully meet India’s demand for power equipment with technology suited to Indian conditions.
Elsewhere. BHEL has successfully commissioned a 250MW thermal power unit at Barauni Extension project of Bihar State Power Generation Company Limited.
Located in Begusarai district of Bihar, Barauni Extension power project has two units (Units 8&9) of 250MW each.
The other unit (Unit 9) is also in advanced stages of execution and is expected to be commissioned shortly.
The Engineering, Procurement and Construction project is being set up on ash dyke of old thermal units which addresses the issue of land scarcity.
The EPC contract includes complete engineering, manufacturing and supply of equipment; erection & commissioning and civil works of all the plant utilities.
Major equipment for the project has been manufactured at BHEL’s Haridwar, Trichy, Bhopal, Ranipet, Hyderabad, Jhansi and Bengaluru plants, while the construction of the plant has been undertaken by the company’s Power Sector – Eastern Region.
At Barauni, in addition to setting up of new units of 250MW, BHEL is also carrying out Renovation & Modernisation (R&M) of two existing units (Units 6&7) of 110MW.
While the R&M of Unit 7 has been completed, work on Unit 6 is in advanced stages of completion. BHEL had set up these units more than 30 years ago.
BHEL is also executing 4x250MW and 3x660MW thermal power projects at Nabinagar, Bihar.
Seperately, BHEL has been awarded the CBIP Award 2018 for ‘Best Power Equipment Manufacturing Organisation’ earlier this month.
The award was received by Atul Sobti, CMD, BHEL, from Dr. Satya Pal Singh, Minister of State for Water Resources, River Development and Ganga Rejuvenation, HRD on CBIP Day 2018. fii-news.com
