Contracts comes with incentives and penalty
Ministry of Railways is adopting Engineering, Procurement & Construction (EPC) tendering system with structure of incentive and penalty to electrify 38,000-km route network over five years to 2022.
The Indian Railways have prepared an Action Plan to electrify (commission on electric traction) 38,000-km from 2017-18 to 2021-22 for 100% electrification of its Broad Gauge (BG) rail routes.
This is for expeditious execution of Railway Electrification projects, Minister of State for Railways Rajen Gohain said in a written reply to a question in Upper House on 9 Feb 2018.
It is expected to achieve recurring saving of Rs.13,510 crore per annum at current price after switch over of all trains from diesel traction to electric traction.
The route to be covered — 4,000-km in 2017-18; 6,000-km in 2018-19; 7,000-km in 2019-20; 10,500-km in 2020-21; 10,500 im in 2021-22. fii-news.com
