DPRs in process for China border roads
The government will build over 2,100 km of axial and lateral roads in Punjab and Rajasthan, abutting Pakistan, as well as 44 strategic roads along the border with China.
The Central Public Works Department (CPWD) has been asked to construct 44 “strategically important” roads along the India-China border to ensure quick mobilisation of troops in case of a conflict, reported Press Trust of India, citing CPWD’s 2018-19 annual report.
The 44 strategically road along the India-China border will cost nearly Rs.21,040 crore. These roads will be built across J&K, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Sikkim and Arunachal Pradesh.
China is also giving a priority to projects along its India borders.
Detailed Project Reports approval is underway.
The lateral and axial roads, over 2,100 km, will cost around Rs.5,400 crore. These would be along Indo-Pakistan border at Rajasthan and Punjab.
DPRs are being prepared.
Rajasthan will see construction of 945 km of lateral roads and 533 km of axial roads, costing about Rs.3,700 crore while the 482 km of lateral roads and 219 km of axial roads in Punjab would cost Rs.1,750 crore. fiinews.com
