Sixteen projects at Chidambarnar
The Rs.325 crore project for Channel and Basin Deepening of Inner Harbour Tuticorin for Fully Loaded Panamax Ships is under tendering, Minister of State for Shipping Mansukh Mandaviya said in a written reply to Rajya Sabha on 22 July 2019.
Among the projects, the upgradation of Inner Harbour-SEPC Berths at Tuticorin at Rs.250 crore is under implementation.
Development of a PPP berth for construction material, costing Rs.65 crore, is also under implementation.
Also, under implementation is the upgradation of Existing Coal Jetty-CJ1 and CJ2 at Tuticorin at a cost of Rs.98 crore.
Meanwhile, detailed project report is being prepared for Rs.10 crore NCB-1 for utilisation of its full capacity at Tuticorin, he said.
Separately, Thoothukudior Tuticorin has been identified as a potential district for development of a Coastal Economic Zone as per the National Perspective Plan of Sagarmala, the Minister told the Upper House.
He further informed that the Government has identified 16 projects for modernization of VO Chidambarnar Port at Tuticorin.
While 10 of these projects have been completed, the remaining are under various stages of implementation, tendering and detailed project report preparation.
The details of the projects are:
Drive through Container Scanner-1 at Tuticorin, project cost Rs.50 crore and under tendering;
RFID – Tuticorin, project cost Rs.5 crore and completed.
Mechanization of Berth IX at Tuticorin, project cost Rs.93 crore and completed.
Development and Operation of a full-fledged Truck Parking Terminal adjacent to NH7A opposite to Fisheries college at Tuticorin, project cost Rs.25 crore and completed.
Construction of North Cargo berth-II for handling bulk cargoes on DBFOT basis at Tuticorin; project cost Rs.335 crore and completed.
Conversion of 8th berth as container terminal on BOT basis for a period of 30 years at Tuticorin, project cost Rs.312 crore and completed.
Coastal berth with dredged depth of 10.0m to handle vessels up to 15000 DWT -length 150m at VoCPT, project cost Rs.36 crore and completed.
Deployment of Additional Harbour Mobile Cranes at III and IV berth at Tuticorin Port, project cost Rs.29 crore and completed.
Construction of NCB3 at VOCPT, project cost Rs.37 crore and completed.
Dredging the dock basin for coastal cargo berth at VOCPT – Dredging in front of dedicated coastal berth, project Rs.98 crore and completed.
Mobile rubber tyred electrically operated hopper, project cost Rs.38.08 crore and completed.
The Minister also informed that the Government has funded 3 port modernization projects at VO Chidambarnar Port under Sagarmala.
These include development and operation of a truck parking terminal, a 150 m coastal berth with dredged depth of 10 m to handle vessels up to 15,000 DWT and dredging the dock basin for the coastal cargo berth.
The Ministry had released Rs.60.88 crore for the three projects, all of which have been completed. fiinews.com
