Value Engineering Concept
The PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PHDCCI) has called for implementation of FIDIC contract in fast tracking road and highway projects in the country.
FIDIC contract, which has standards set by the the International Federation of Consulting Engineers, should be implemented without dilution, PHDCCI has told NHAI Chairman Dr. Sukhbir Singh Sandhu during a meeting on 17 Dec 2019 in New Delhi.
Engineering concepts should be valued and encouraged, added the chamber mostly representing businesses from Punjab, Haryana and Delhi.
It has also called for Project Monitoring Group in Central Government for coordination among various agencies involved in road projects.
The Group should have representation from Inter-Ministerial and relevant departments (Centre & State) to evaluate the viability and sustainability of the different Infrastructure projects based on area specific needs. It should also evaluate which model to apply in projects.
After arbitration awards awarded by Dispute Review Boards (DRB) should not be challenged routinely, said PHDCCI.
It should be reviewed by an empowered committee in the concerned Ministry in the interest of saving time and cost.
Appreciating NHAI’s work, PHDCCI President Dr. D K Aggarwal, said “We look forward to the fast tracking of road and highway projects to further improve the Ease of Doing Business in the country.”
The PHDCCI delegation also invited Dr Sukhbir Singh Sandhu to address its conference on “Arbitration Norms for Infrastructure Sector”, scheduled on 8 January 2020 in New Delhi. fiinews.com
