Report assesses the role of technology
Organizations, both governments and businesses, will continue to leverage emerging technologies in an innovative manner to create and navigate the new normal despite the challenges of a global pandemic caused by COVID-19.
This view was presented by a report which captures the perspectives of industry leaders and policymakers to better understand how COVID-19 has impacted the Indian businesses and government operations.
The report by Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) in partnership with Itihaasa Research and Digital, also looks at how people are leveraging emerging technologies to transform themselves.
The report ‘The Digital Journey in the New Normal – How are organizations leveraging emerging technologies in response to COVID-19?’ was released on 20 August 2020.
It was presented during the unprecedented times of a global pandemic that is profoundly impacting our lives and businesses worldwide.
The report assesses the role which technology has been playing in helping industries to combat the current challenge and continue their business operations and will play in the post-pandemic scenario.
The report further highlights the belief of leaders that the arc of digital transformation of the world is unending and inevitable. The Covid-19 pandemic cannot stop the digital wheels from turning quickly.
The leaders strongly felt a need for creating a digital transformation that is inclusive and sustainable.
The report identifies the following broad categories of applications of emerging technologies:
Technologies that help with Covid-19 response in a factory and office.
Technologies that help with teleworking, remote working and online collaboration.
Technologies that augment cybersecurity and bring in resilience in the organization.
Technologies like AI, machine learning, Robotic Process Automation (RPA) tools that help in the automation of business processes.
Technologies that assist in online or digital learning in the organization.
The report also captures the three key challenges that business leaders face in achieving the vision of digital transformation.
The problem of the “unknown unknown” – How to reinvent the business and yet maintain or improve customer and employee experience?
The problem of the constrained budget – How to allocate budgets between run-the-business, change-the-business and transform-the-business initiatives?
The problem of the digital skill gap – How to skill-up employees? How to overcome the digital divide among customers?
The report has clearly indicated that technologies will play a larger role in the way businesses will be conducted; however, each organization has to address these challenges in a manner that is contextual to their company and industry. #technologies #digital #pandemic #covid-19 /fiinews.com
