Industries told to do their bit for water
The Indian people need to adopt technology on a large scale to safeguard water resources and win over global technologists, says an industry expert.
“If India is able to show what it can do to scale up any technology, then the world would come here with their technologies,” said David Wilcox, Founder, Reach Scale Global Network.
Whatever technology is used for safeguarding water resources needs to be adopted by the larger population and should be commercially viable, he said at the at a virtual event- ‘Safe Water for ALL and Save Water By ALL’ organized by The Associated Chambers of Commerce and Industry of India (ASSOCHAM) on 6 Nov 2020.
Safeguarding water resources is not the government’s responsibility alone but that of all the stakeholders including the industries to ensure that they do their bit, added Juhi Gupta, Head Sustainability at PepsiCo Holdings India Pvt Ltd.
India has around 16% of the world’s population and only 4% of the world’s water resources, she noted.
“It is indeed alarming that almost 2.3 billion people don’t have access to safe drinking water and almost double of that figure don’t have access to a sanitation facility,” she said.
“Almost 200 million work hours a day are wasted for the women population trying to get drinking water for their families. The same time can be used productively to get access to education,” Gupta pointed out.
Speaking at the same event, Delhi Government’s Minister of Home & Health, Public Works Department and Power Satyendar Kumar Jain stated that the Delhi government has great confidence to be able to provide clean drinking water round the clock to the people by the year 2025. #water #projects #tenders #environment #health /fiinews.com
