A plethora of opportunities for all stakeholders, says Prof. Bandyopadhyay
Startups from India and Singapore made powerful pitches and impressed the judges with their presentation at the first of a series of virtual competition held by the Singapore Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SICCI) and Start-up Incubation and Innovation Centre (SIIC) of IIT-Kanpur, both of which aim to provide a gateway of opportunities to tech-based start-ups to usher a circular economy and an entrepreneurial ecosystem.
Maneesh Tripathi, Chairman of SICCI’s Start-up Incubation Committee, said, “The SICCI-IIT K Launch pad Series 1 is the first event of its kind to discover, promote and nurture Startups from two countries Singapore and India via a common platform in partnership. The startups made powerful pitching.”
The nine selected participants, four from India and five from Singapore, impressed the judges with their presentations at the event, a first in a series of cross-border collaborations SICCI and SIIC will undertake. The series will be continued every quarter, added Tripathi, after hosting the event on 23 April 2021.
“LaunchPad 2021 is the first of many upcoming endeavours that marks the beginning of an unseen era in the incubation ecosystem. SIIC and SICCI have come together to develop a symbiotic relationship to benefit indigenous innovations in our respective countries,” said Prof. Amitabha Bandyopadhyay, Professor In-charge, Innovation and Incubation, IIT Kanpur.
“As we open our doors for their (Singapore) startups to explore the Indian market, and vice versa, we bring in a plethora of opportunities for all stakeholders. We are delighted to support tech-based businesses that are sustainable, ensure value-addition, and provide local employment opportunities,” elaborated Prof. Bandyopadhyay.
“We plan to provide a well-deserved launchpad to our start-ups and those in India to create well-established global brands that thrive on excellence, innovation, and ingenuity,” assured SICCI Chairman Dr. T. Chandroo.
The four startups Acuafront Infrastructure, Kritsnam Technology, MLIT-18 Technology, Offgrid Energy Labs, Oxymen Global, Movel AI, AMONBORD, Itechgenic and Namaste Bharat.
SICCI and SIIC IIT Kanpur have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on 10 March 2021 to commemorate their shared goals of education and entrepreneurship development. The SICCI-SIIC cross-border collaborations are in line with the MoU.
The two institutions will collaborate to identify young, indigenous talent to provide them with an array of incubation services. “The one-of-its-kind association will provide start-ups in Singapore and India a competitive edge in the global market. With an array of services, both SICCI and SIIC will promote homegrown and international initiatives operating in the technology domain with mentorship and access to capital,” said a joint statement.
To galvanise their efforts towards promoting indigenous innovation, SICCI and SIIC are organizing a Launchpad Competition – SICCI-SIIC INNOVATION LAUNCHPAD – a start-up pitch competition on 23rd April 2021 on a virtual platform. The event will be conducted from 2.30 PM (SGT) to 4 PM (SGT) / 12 Noon (IST) to 1.30 PM (IST).
The purpose of the launchpad is to encourage start-ups to take advantage of the Singapore-India trade and technology corridor. The LaunchPad 2021 will be an annual event to recognise (such) start-ups with the potential to tap into each other’s markets and develop sustainable services.
