NTPC burns 77,000 tons of Biomass in TPPs
The importance of Biomass was underlined at a workshop in Chandigarh as it remains an untapped energy resource and would be an additional source of income for farmers, given the high demand and favorable government policies.
Highlighting the Biomass potential, NTPC Ltd Director (Operations) Ramesh Babu informed about various initiatives taken by NTPC for Biomass utilization in Thermal Power Plants (TPP).
Approximately 77,000 tons of Biomass have been used in TPPs’ co-firing to date, he said.
The National Mission on the use of Biomass in Thermal Power Plants (SAMARTH) collaborated with NTPC for the one-day workshop held 14 July 2022.
It aimed to promote and facilitate ex-situ utilization of agri-residue in various applications, with a focus on developing an eco-system for aggregation, transportation, manufacturing, supply, and co-firing of biomass in thermal power plants.
The importance of Biomass in attaining India’s fuel energy security was highlighted by Sudip Nag, Mission Director, National Mission on Use of Biomass in Thermal Power Plants & Executive Director, NTPC.
