Sanctioned: 19 rail projects worth Rs.77,930cr
Nineteen new projects worth Rs 77,930 crores have been sanctioned for improving Railway connectivity in the North East region (NER).
Overall, 20 river-transportation projects have been declared as national waterways in NER, the Ministry of Development of North-East Region said on 7 Jan 2023 in a project update.
Rs.600 crores have been sanctioned for the development of national waterway 2 and national waterway 16, the Ministry added.
Elaborating on the developments in the region, it said 375 road projects worth Rs.1.05 lakh crores are under way.
In the next three years, the foundation stones will be laid for 9,476 km roads under 209 projects for which the central government is spending Rs.106,004 crores.
To further give a boost to air connectivity, Rs.2,000 crores will be invested in civil aviation in the region where eight new airports have been built since 2014, taking the total of 17.
Further, the Rs.9,265 crore North East Gas Grid (NEGG) project is underway and will improve economy in the region.
The Cabinet has recently approved projects for the region with an outlay of Rs.12,882.2 crore for the balance period of the 15th Finance Commission (2022-23 to 2025-26).
The actual expenditure in last four years was Rs.7,534.46 crore, whereas the fund available for expenditure in next four years till 2025-26 is Rs.19482.20 crore, said the Ministry. fiinews.com
