SABIC focused on 4+ GW of renewable energy globally
Riyadh-headquartered SABIC has underlined its commitment to India’s growth journey, as well as ambition to be at the forefront of delivering sustainable and innovative solutions.
“Our Technology and Innovation footprint in the region is focused on providing comprehensive solutions applicable to the needs of our customers in India, underlining SABIC’s focus on growing together through innovation. All of which will enable India’s sustainable growth,” he said
He shared his views on prospects in India as SABIC participated in PlastIndia 2023, a major plastics and rubber tradeshow. The event is making a return after a three-year pause due to challenges from the COVID-19 pandemic.
Held from 1-5 February in New Delhi, SABIC showcased its innovative, sustainable solutions at the Pragati Maidan exhibition centre.
These solutions will highlight how SABIC can help contribute to India’s growth and support its carbon neutrality goals by accelerating the pivot to electric mobility and a circular economy, he said.
To demonstrate this, SABIC displayed its sustainable, high performance material solutions that have shown to be suitable for industries like automotive and electric mobility, consumer goods, food packaging, solar power panels, 5G networks, electrical and electronics, and the healthcare sector.
The Saudi petrochemical group showcased:
Automotive:
An award-winning EV battery pack cover that is 40% lighter than one made from metal and which meets stringent fire safety standards. These materials fall under SABIC’s BLUEHERO™ initiative, which aims to enable the shift to electric power and increase vehicle efficiency.
Electrical & Electronics:
5G services in India have led to the demand for Multiport Service Terminal parts and optic fiber cable jackets. For these, SABIC has solutions such as VALOX™ resin that is flame retardant, and demonstrates good chemical and mechanical resistance.
Packaging:
Aimed at reducing waste by using durable yet lightweight, mono-material solutions and applications designed for recycling – a new fully recyclable stand-up pouch made with SABIC BOPE material that helps contribute to the circular economy.
Building & Construction:
To support the need in rising demand for enhanced quality of life and healthy living, SABIC offers LEXAN™ and CLINIWALL™ sheets which have anti-bacterial properties and strong impact resistance to which have been used in solutions that help better safeguard public health in hospitals, childcare and public facilities. Through SABIC® Vestolen P9421 solution, SABIC can also facilitate clean water supply through pipes made of SABIC material which are highly heat stabilized to carry hot and cold potable water supply for households.
Renewable Energy:
India’s 2030 renewable energy target has fueled the rapid growth of solar capacity installation. SABIC presented its POE solutions with excellent mechanical properties alongside HDPE solution for the making of solar floats.
Sami Al-Osaimi further added, “Continuing our commitment to reducing the carbon footprint, SABIC is focusing on leveraging more than 4 GW of renewable energy through solar, wind, hydroelectric and biomass installations across Saudi Arabia, Europe, the Americas and Asia-Pacific.
“We are also committed to producing 1 million metric tonnes of TRUCIRCLE™ solutions per year by 2030 to support circularity for plastics.”
PlastIndia 2023 is Asia’s 2nd largest plastics & rubber exhibition, with over 1,800 exhibitors expected to participate from across the world focused on sustainability and innovation.
