NESIDS’ 145 projects worth Rs.3,392.99cr have been sanctioned
Nineteen Railway infrastructure projects, 14 New Lines and five Doubling, costing Rs.81,942 crore, are in different stages of planning, approval and execution in Assam as of 1 Apr 2023, Minister for Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region G. Kishan Reddy said in a written reply in Rajya Sabha on 3 Aug 2023.
The projects, covering total length of 1,909 km, are part of the North Eastern Region development, he said, adding that 482-km, costing Rs.37,813 crore, have been commissioned March 2023.
The Minister also updated the house on projects North East Special Infrastructure Development Scheme (NESIDS), adding that 145 projects worth Rs.3,392.99 crore have been sanctioned.
The Ministry has taken a number of initiatives to ensure completion of the ongoing projects.
Release of funds for the projects is linked to physical and financial progress of the work. Ministry releases funds under its schemes through Public Finance Management System (PFMS) to ensure ‘just in time’ release.
Further, State Governments of NER have also been instructed to implement Expenditure-Advance-Transfer (EAT) modules of PFMS for tracking of funds released under the schemes.
In addition, Ministry conducts regular review meetings with State Governments at senior level and undertakes field visits for monitoring the progress.
Ministry has designated Nodal Officers and Chief Nodal Officers for each NER State for better coordination with State Governments and to facilitate execution and follow up of the projects in respective States.
All the North Eastern States are eligible for sanction of projects to the extent of their normative allocations as applicable under NESIDS, he said.

Arunachal Pradesh – 29 projects, costing Rs.623.87 crore;
Assam – 33 projects, costing Rs.880.82 crore;
Manipur – 18 projects, costing Rs.341.32 crore;
Meghalaya – 12 projects, costing Rs.340.50 crore;
Mizoram – 17 projects, costing Rs.345.38 crore;
Nagaland – 17 projects, costing Rs.333.62 crore;
Sikkim – 8 projects, costing Rs.214.51 crore;
Tripura – 11 projects, costing Rs.312.97 crore.
