NGEL to set up 2 GW renewables plants in Chhattisgarh
NTPC Ltd has announced Rs.96,000 crore power sector investments in Chhattisgarh as part of multiple MoUs signed with the state government, including Rs.80,000 crore 4,200 MW Nuclear Capacity complex.
The plan to set up clean energy projects include nuclear, pump hydro and renewable projects based on solar, wind and hybrid sources in the state, the NTPC said in a statement on 10 Mar.
“NTPC, along with its subsidiary NTPC Green Energy Ltd (NGEL), has signed multiple agreements worth with the state government at Chhattisgarh Energy Investors Summit-2025 held at Raipur,” said the statement.
It is also to invest approximately Rs.5,876 crores on a 1,200 MW of Pumped Hydro Storage Project at Sikaser in the Gariyaband district of the state under ag agreement with Chhattisgarh State Power Generation Company Limited (CSPGCL).
The statement said NGEL and the CSPGCL will set up Rs.10,000 crore renewable energy projects of up to 2 GW in the state which will meet the renewable generation obligation (RGO) of the CSPGCL https://ted.europa.eu/en/.
Chhattisgarh has attracted investments worth Rs 301,086 crore through various industrial proposals in the energy sector at the ‘Chhattisgarh Energy Investors Summit 2025’, the State Government said on 10 Mar.
NTPC Limited along with its subsidiary NGEL has also signed multiple MoUs with the Govt. of Madhya Pradesh during the Global Investors Summit, being held at Bhopal on 24th-25th February 2025, committing Rs.120,000 crore investments.
NGEL and Madhya Pradesh Power Generating Company Limited (MPPGCL) are to set up Renewable Energy projects up to 20 GW or more in the state under a Joint Venture Company (JVC), which will help in mitigating the Renewable Generation Obligation (RGO).

An agreement was also signed between Govt. of MP & NTPC, pertaining to an intent to invest approximately Rs.4,000 crores in setting up 800 MW of Pumped Hydro Storage Project in the state.
NTPC is contributing one-fourth of the India’s power requirements and has an installed capacity of over 77 GW, with an additional capacity of 29.5 GW under construction, including 9.6 GW of renewable energy capacity.
