Sustainable development planned
The Island Development Agency (IDA) has reviewed 11 anchor tourism projects, six in Andaman & Nicobar and five in Lakshadweep during Investors’ Conference held on 10 Aug 2018 in New Delhi.
Also reviewed were several other infrastructure projects, inter-alia, Ro-Ro ferry services, desalination plants, digital connectivity, green energy.
These projects are for the Phase I implementation as a holistic development of the islands.
Out of these 11 projects, four in Andaman & Nicobar and three in Lakshadweep are in “Ready to Launch” stage.
Detailed land survey & demarcation of project sites, carrying capacity assessment of the project islands and pre-feasibility study have been undertaken.
NITI Aayog, together with the Ministry of Home Affairs and the UT Administrations of Andaman & Nicobar and Lakshadweep hosted the conference.
Amitabh Kant, CEO, NITI Aayog, said “Our objective is to ensure sustainable and eco-friendly development of projects in Andaman, Nicobar, and Lakshadweep islands.
“Government will keep in mind the carrying capacity of these pristine islands to ensure they are never under burden”, added Kant.
