GAIL (India) Ltd has produced Metallocene linear-low density polyethylene (mLLDPE) on its world-class 400,000 MT per annum UNIPOL™ PE Reactor line at Pata in Uttar Pradesh.
It was produced using Houston-based Univation’s Metallocene technology combined with the UNIPOL™ PE Process.
GAIL’s Metallocene LLDPE resin products are well-suited for a wide-range of Metallocene-based film structures that require advantaged performance – particularly important for applications such as stretch wrap films, agricultural films and food packaging films.
GAIL’s Metallocene LLDPE product – offered under the brand name “G-Lene” – has been very well received by GAIL’s convertor customers as meeting all operating expectations while exceeding film performance expectations.
Dr. Steven F. Stanley, President of Univation Technologies, stated, “We celebrate with GAIL on reaching this important achievement as the first Metallocene PE producer in India.
“Our XCAT™ Metallocene PE Technology provides GAIL with the ideal platform to satisfy a range of high-performance film applications requiring superior puncture and tear resistance, while also allowing for significant down-gauging opportunities – a key sustainability benefit for the Indian market,” he said in announcing the success on 17 June 2019 Houston.
“Demand for Metallocene polyethylene resins provides significant growth opportunities within the Indian PE market, particularly for higher-end applications that require Metallocene’s superior film performance attributes which are unmatched by conventional polyethylene resins,” stated Mr. B. C. Tripathi, Chairman & Managing Director, GAIL.
“Univation’s Metallocene technology combined with the UNIPOL™ PE Process provides GAIL with the right solutions to deliver consistent Metallocene resins that meet or exceed the performance requirements of our Metallocene PE customers throughout the Indian market.
“This move of GAIL shall promote “Make in India” and shall help potential forex savings of over USD 100 million annually for India, as per initial estimates,” said Tripathi.
The mLLDPE was produced at Pata on 17 January 2019.
Univation Technologies is the global leader in licensed polyethylene technology. More than one-third of all HDPE and LLDPE resins produced globally is supplied by the industry-leading UNIPOL™ PE Process.
GAIL is India’s National Gas Company with activities ranging from Gas Transmission and Marketing to Processing (for fractionating LPG, Propane, Light Naphtha and Pentane); transmission of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG); production and marketing of Petrochemicals like HDPE and LLDPE and leasing bandwidth in Telecommunications. fiinews.com
