Investment discussions held
AGRESTAL, an organic export-oriented company from Himachal Pradesh, plans is to setup a silk processing centre in Assam in partnership with the Indian Government.
It aims for the Government partnership funding and collaboration for production and export of Eri silk as organic silk, Minister of Textiles, Smriti Zubin Irani, said in a written reply in the Rajya Sabha on 12 Mar 2020.
The company has visited areas in Assam and had discussion with the Government, field level functionaries and Seri-culturists.
Assam’s jute mills, Atlanta Modular and Assam Cooperative Jute Mills Ltd in Guwahati and Silghat, Nagaon, are expected to support the centre.
The Indian Government has also sanctioned two State-of-the-art Eri Spun Silk Mills under North Eastern Region Textile Promotion Scheme (NERTPS) at a total project cost of Rs.43.06 crore.
The Government will take a share of Rs.38.18 crore each in Biswanath and Kokrajhar-BTC of Assam. fiinews.com
