Rural internet users surpassed those in cities
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has said the emphasis is being laid to re-energize technology-based industries, in which India has a long-term competitive advantage.
Addressing the delivered the FICCI’s 93rd Annual General Meeting and Annual Convention via video conferencing on 12 Dec 2020, he stressed that the re-energize program has driven up efficiency and made Indian industry stronger and more competitive.
Modi also urged the industry to invest in rural areas including the agriculture sector as the investments would open new opportunities for people in rural India.
“The ambitions of rural India are increasingly on the rise. They want socio-economic mobility, and the government is trying to fulfill these ambitions,” he told the country’s business community.
The Prime Minister further asserted, “Our economy, in various sectors, needs more and more bridges and not barriers so that they can support each other.
He informed that the number of Internet users in the rural areas has surpassed the cities and more than half of India’s start-ups are in tier-2 and tier-3 cities.
Mentioning recently approved PM-WANI for public Wi-Fi hotspots, he said that entrepreneurs should become partners in the rural connectivity efforts.
“It is certain that in the 21st century, India’s growth will be driven by villages and the small cities and entrepreneurs like you should not lose out on the opportunity to invest in the villages and small cities. Your investment will open new doors for our brothers and sisters in the rural areas and the agriculture sector” said the Prime Minister.
Alongside the FICCI Annual Convention, the FICCI Annual Expo 2020 was also inaugurated by the Hon’ble Prime Minister.
