Long-term commitment, assures Lau

Chinese smartphone company, OnePlus, which has gained significant foothold in the Indian market over the last four-years, is banking on the growing strength of the Indian IT sector for its Research & Development.

“We are looking at India as a global talent hub for the company. The idea is to have a long-term approach, bringing the best of talent and training them and have them work with us over the long term…. We anticipate that India will be our largest R&D base in three or more years,” OnePlus co-founder and CEO Pete Lau told Press Trust of India.

Having entered the Indian market in 2014 with Amazon as its e-commerce partner, OnePlus has set up R&D centre in Hyderabad supported, similar to facilities in Shenzhen, Taiwan and the United States.

The company is scouting for talent with engineering colleges such as IITs for expanding 100-R&D team.

Lau sees the premium segment of smartphones growing to 15-20% in about 3-5 years from the current 3-5%.

“That is what we have told the India team, they need to focus on being healthy and sustainable in the long-term,” he said to PTI, assuring of OnePlus’ long-term commitment to India. fiinews.com
