Award for single mother’s endeavours
Singapore’s Indian businesses has planned a large scale celebration of Women Entrepreneurs including the first time ever recognition of endeavours of single mothers on 25 April 2019.
The Singapore Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (SICCI) has worked out five-category of awards for Singapore women of Indian origins as it celebrates 95 years of being one of the leading business groups in Singapore.
“The Awards is a recognition of the achievements and contributions of women in the Singapore Indian community,” said SICCI in a release on 14 March 2019.
“We want to place our Indian women on the right kind of platform”, added Mahesh Sivaswamy, SICCI Vice chairman who leads the award committee.
Sivaswamy underlined the challenges faced by single mothers in raising a family while holding a job.
The single mother’s story will inspire others going through the predicament of raising family and holding a job, he said.
The awards, to be an annual affair, aims to open more opportunities in businesses for women of Indian origins, he told reporters.
The awards’ other categories will be for Young Achiever, Woman with a Heart for social and charity work, Indian Woman Entrepreneur of The Year, and Lifetime Achievement Award.
The awards will be given to one woman in each category on 25 April 2019, after processing nominations and selection by judging committee in the first half of April, said SICCI. Nominations will close on 5 April.
The awards, initiated by SICCI’s Women Entrepreneur Network, are also part of SICCI’s 95-year celebration with a gala dinner on 25 April.
