Four islands identified for seaplane landing

IRClass

Bids have been called for India’s seaplane operations at four locations in Andamans where tourism related infrastructure is planned across 17 islands.

Bidding has been opened for seaplane operations at Swaraj Deep, Shahed Dweep, Hut Bay and Long Island under the UDAN Regional Connectivity Scheme, Press Trust of India reported on 24 Mar 2019.

Andaman Airways is set to commence operation from June 2019 from the nearly completed Diglipur airport on northern tip of Andamans as part of the national programme to turn the Indian Ocean into a global tourist hub.

The potential of second airstrip is being explored in at Car Nicobar, Campbell Bay and in Port Blair, according to PTI citing a Home Ministry official.

Port Blair has been declared immigration post.

The global seaplane industry has been studying the potential of putting hundreds of flying units in the Indian market, starting with the Indian Ocean islands and major rivers across the country which are being developed as National Waterways for goods transportation and people movement, easing pressure on the stressed land-based transport network. fiinews
