Anand leads expansion and investments
Udemy, the global marketplace for learning and teaching online with over 30 million students and 42,000 instructors worldwide, is expanding in India, citing it as the fastest growing markets that doubles revenue and student number year-on-year.
For leading the expansion, the San Francisco-based company has appointed Irwin Anand as Managing Director for India effective immediately.
Anand’s responsibilities include opening Udemy’s first India office, growing the local team, and deepening the company’s investment in the region, said Udemy in a release on 24 April 2019.
“As India is one of the company’s fastest growing markets, with revenue and students doubling year-over-year, Anand will be also focused on further localizing the Udemy student and instructor experience in India,” said Udemy.
Backing its drive in the Indian market, Udemy highlighted Anand’s experiences. He was the Chief Operating Officer at OLX India, a marketplace for pre-owned goods, jobs, and real estate where he led initiatives across marketing, product and technology, customer experience, monetization strategy, and advertising.
Before OLX, Anand led business development for Yahoo! India where he built mobile distribution partnerships and was a key influencer in local product roadmaps. Anand holds an MBA from XLRI Jamshedpur and B.E. Engineering from the Thapar Institute of Engineering and Technology.
“On behalf of the whole Udemy team, I’d like to extend a warm welcome to Irwin,” Udemy CEO said Gregg Coccari.
“With a mission to improve lives through learning, Udemy sees a big opportunity to bring a more localized experience for our students and instructors in India. Irwin has the right experience to help us extend the benefits of our learning platform to students, companies, and governments alike,” said Coccari.
“It is an exciting time to join as Udemy is already on a huge growth trajectory bringing learning opportunities to millions around the world,” added Irwin Anand.
“I look forward to working with the team, building our local operations, and making education available to even more people and in all corners of India,” said Anand as Udemy India Country Manager.
