Paswan’s road map for FCI
The Government plans to create 100 lakh ton silo storage capacity in the country to ensure that not a grain of food is wasted.
This has been outlined by Minister of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, Ram Vilas Paswan, in the Food Corporation of India’s (FCI) road map on 7 June 2019.
Previous government had constructed 6.75 lakh ton storage capacity while work is ongoing for 22 lakh ton capacity.
The slow construction is mainly due to the necessity of having 1.5-km rail siding next to the silos, he pointed out.
RITES, the state-owned railway engineering company, has been assigned to change the silo model and make recommendations to FCI in 90 days.
The remaining silos completion target is 2021 for storing procured wheat in March 2022. fiinews.com
