Mumbai–Kanyakumari Economic Corridor to improve west-coast
A total of 35,000 km of National Highways are being developed in the country as a part of Bharatmala Pariyojana which was conceptualized through a scientific study of freight traffic movement between key origin-destination pairs to enable efficient freight and passenger movement.
Giving this update, Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari said that 119-km of Port Connectivity Roads are under planning for an upgrade as part of the Bharatmala/Sagarmala Scheme.
Many flagship corridors such as Delhi Mumbai Expressway, Delhi Amritsar Katra Expressway, Chennai–Bengaluru Expressway are also being developed as a part of Bharatmala Pariyojana, said the Minister who inaugurated and laid the foundation stone for 8 National Highway projects in Kerala on 13 Oct 2020.
The 1,760-km Mumbai–Kanyakumari Economic Corridor is one such corridor being developed as a part of the Bharatmala Pariyojana to improve connectivity to the entire western coast of the country.
Twenty-three projects, of 650-km length, under the Mumbai–Kanyakumari Economic Corridor are being developed in Kerala at an investment of Rs.50,000 crore.
The corridor would improve connectivity to major cities and towns such as Kasargod, Thalassery, Kannur, Kozhikode, Ernakulam, Kochi, Alappuzha, Kollam and Thiruvananthapuram.
Construction is being initiated on another seven projects of 177-km, costing Rs.11,571 crore.
He assured the government’s commitment to the completion of these projects to enable the economic prosperity of the state.
The 2014-2020 expenditure on construction of National Highways in Kerala is Rs.3,820 crore, while another Rs.671 crore was spent on maintenance of NH in the State.
Allocation under flood repair/ordinary repair is Rs 96.50 crore, he added.
In total, Rs.19,800 crore of highways would be completed by 2024 in the state. Currently, 30 projects of 549-km length, costing Rs.5,327 crore, are under implementation. #tenders #projects #highways #roads #infrastructrue #Kerala /fiinews.com
