Sonowal updates Lok Sabha on port-related projects
The Kerala Government is further developing Beypore Port for handling of more passengers and cargo by undertaking Capital Dredging for berthing bigger vessels, increasing the length of existing wharf, acquisition of land for constructing godown and cargo handling facility and connectivity.
At present there is no proposal from State Government with respect to infrastructure at Beypore port under Sagarmala Scheme, says Minister for Ports, Shipping and Waterways Sarbananda Sonowal in a written reply to the Lok Sabha on 28 July 2023.
He has also given updates on other port-related projects.
As of now, the 340-m wharf Port has 3 fixed cranes, 5 mobile cranes, 1 container handling crane, 2 reach stackers and 3 Tugs for smooth shipping operations.
Construction of Breakwater both in North and South side of entrance channel – Berth-1 and Berth-2. Capital Dredging at Cuddalore Port from entrance channel till cargo berths.
The Rs.135 crore project is being undertaken by Tamil Nadu Maritime Board for which Rs.67.50 crore has been sanctioned.
Dredging the dock basin for coastal cargo berth at VOCPT – Dredging in front of dedicated coastal berth. The Rs.98 crore project is being undertaken by V. O. Chidambaranar Port Authority for which Rs.20.88 crore has been sanctioned.
Capital Dredging for Puducherry Port – phase 1 by Port Dept, Puducherry, for which all the Rs.44 crore cost have been sanctioned.
The Rs.16.54 crore capital dredging in Navigational Channel for Ro-Ro Pax Services at Mandwa is under Maharashtra Maritime Board. To date, Rs.8.27 crore has been sanctioned.
The Rs.29 crore capital Dredging at Old Mangaluru Port – Bengre Side is under Ports & IWT, Karnataka. So far, Rs.14.50 crore has been sanctioned.
Rs.234 crore dredging of RO-Pax Ferry Services between Gogha and Dahej in Gulf of Cambay is under Gujarat Maritime Board. So far, Rs.117 crore has been sanctioned so far.
The Rs.45.81 crore has been sanctioned for the Upgradation of Dredging at GhoghaChannel, Turning Circle and Approach Channel to achieve depth of (-)7 metre is being undertaken by Deendayal Port Authority.
To date, Rs.23.22 crore has been sanctioned for the Rs.46.44 crore dredging at Vanakbara Port of UT of Daman & Diu.
Rs.22.95 crore has been sanctioned for the Rs.45.9 crore Dredging at Diu port of UT of Daman & Diu. Fiinews.com
