Minister says 100 new food testing labs will be opened

Indian food exports touched US$50 billion last year and prospects are good for shipping food products to the global markets for this year, APEDA Chairman Abhishek Dev said in his opening address at the 8th edition of Indusfood 2025 on 8 Jan at Expo Centre, Greater Noida.

“The opportunity is immense as the global market size is US$4 trillion and we are just 2.4% of it,” he said.

“Processed food as a segment has also great potential and our aim is to increase value added export by 40% in 3 to 4 years,” he elaborated.

The organic food market, according to Dev, is US$147 billion with India having “a very small share of 2.5%. Moving forward, we have to grow 4 times in the next 5 years,” he estimated http://mofpi.gov.in.

Inaugurating the Indusfood 2025, Minister of Food Processing Industries Chirag Paswan said, “My government is working toward food security for the world with the mission that no one should sleep hungry, and here India can play a major role as agriculture producer and exporter https://fieo.org/.”

He highlighted the need for food safety, saying, “We have opened food testing labs as mandated in the Union Budget and 100 new testing labs will be added to ensure food safety to all https://sbi.com.in/.”

Paswan informed delegates at the exhibition that his Ministry is also working toward increasing the longevity of perishable items so as to have a long shelves life and minimize the losses http://wfp.org.

The Minister assured the industry that the government is committed to bridging the gap between the policy and the industry and will support the industry in every possible way. Fiinews.com
